ASHCLYST ROTTWEILERS |
|
Welcome to our web-site. We are a small kennel based in Exeter, Devon and have owned, bred and exhibited Rottweilers since the late 1980's. We feel very lucky to live in such a wonderful area of the country, with fantastic dog-walking facilities right on our door-step. Having started in GSD's in the mid 70's, a breed for which we still have much affection, the Rottweiler came into our lives and as they say, once you have owned this breed there really is nothing else like them. We have had some success in the show-ring with various dogs, breeding or owning several to their stud book numbers, (previous affix ROTTKERNOW),winning two Reserve Challenge Certificates in Rottweilers and campaigning a Swedish Vallhund Ch. Svedala Tomte Pelle to his title, winning best of breed at Crufts in 1992. This still remains a fantastic memory after all these years, to have been in the big ring at Crufts in the old Working Group. We have also had some show-ring success with GSD's, but following a break in showing activities we returned to the Rottweiler show-scene in 2005, with Bevanray Jubilant With Ashclyst (Callum), Fantasa Star Light (Tara) and more recently Gyrima Seconds to Midnite For Ashclyst (Robynne). Our dogs have performed well in the show-ring, each qualifying for Crufts every year with many class wins at Championship and Open show level under breed specialists and all-rounders from home and abroad. Thankyou to their breeders, Bev Hucker, Liz Dunhill and Jo Barnes for entrusting these dogs to us. All our dogs are first and foremost, family pets living in the house with us. They are all of excellent temperament and are hip-scored. We regard our dogs as ambassadors for the breed when they are out and about, so it is essential that they are well balanced and obedient. These are dogs who will drop into the down at distance, even when in pursuit of wild rabbits - well, most of the time! As befits dogs living in the countryside, they are well socialised and trustworthy around livestock. Our affix 'ASHCLYST' is not a combination of names or places, but is simply the name of a fantastic National Trust forest just down the road from where we live. |

Having retired from the Police service in 2005, Peter is now heavily involved with dog training and behavioural rehabilitation. Please see the training pages on this site for further details. Whilst Peter seems to attract lots of guarding and larger breeds, understandable after a lifetime with guarding breeds, dogs of all breeds are accepted and no problem is regarded as insurmountable! None of you have a problem that hasn't been seen before! Whilst the claim is, "I've never met a problem dog I couldn't improve", there are some owners who are more challenging! As we know, not all Rottweilers are balanced, easy to live with dogs and usually this will be down to human error and lack of knowledge. Please note that 10% of all training fees from Rottweiler owners will be donated to Rottweiler Welfare at the end of each financial year. << HOME |
