TRAINING METHODS

My methods involve the use of calm, positive reinforcement of good behaviour and calm assertive disruption of inappropriate behaviour. As well as altering the mind-set of your problem dog, I will train you the owner to become a stronger, calmer, more positive leader of your dog. My publicity material clearly states "Dogs and their owners trained," because dog and owner must be a team with the owner leading to ensure success. This starts in the home which is why any good behaviourist will ALWAYS visit the client and their dog at home in the first instance.

I make the claim that I have never met a dog I can't improve and I do so with confidence gained from years of experience. Many problems can be resolved very quickly and some virtually overnight but where your dog is showing significant aggression to other people or other dogs then no responsible behaviourist will claim that this can be resolved overnight. After all, in many cases it has taken years for the dog to get into this state, therefore it is unrealistic and indeed dishonest if any behaviourist claims to be able to resolve serious aggression issues overnight.

The good news is that I make major improvements in even the most aggressive of dogs very quickly. If you look at my RECENT CLIENTS page, you will see that most of the case studies there are for aggressive dogs. The owners delighted comments speak for themselves.

Similar to Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer, I use my own dogs as stooge dogs in aggression cases. The purpose of this is to show clients that their dogs behaviour can be brought under control as my dogs use their calm, sociable approach to encourage social play from previously aggressive dogs. Clients are tremendously reassured when they see their own dogs interacting in a much calmer way around my dogs.

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE

As stated, I always conduct the initial assessment in the owners home. This is a 2-3 hour session which is a combination of theory and practical input. The client is left with a detailed Action Plan and then in aggression and serious behavioural cases, I normally see the client and their dog for an environmental training session a week or so later.

These environmental sessions are in public areas where we can expect to meet and socialise with other dogs and their owners. Clients who have previously always desperately sought to avoid other dogs now actively seek out other dogs so that they can demonstrate their newly discovered leadership skills with their much more sociable dog.

My methods do not include punishment or harsh treatment of clients dogs and I do not use electric shock collars or other physically abusive training equipment.

Please see my RECENT CLIENTS page for case studies and testimonials from delighted clients, many of whom were considering rehoming prior to my intervention.

Owning a problem dog can be demoralising and socially embarrassing. Dog ownership need not be a miserable existence for you or your dog.
